Itinerary

1

10 min

The red windmill that became a Paris legend. Begin beside the famous cabaret that opened in 1889, the same year as the Eiffel Tower. Hear how dancers, theatrical posters and the French cancan helped turn this corner of Paris into a worldwide symbol of nightlife. Photo: your first Montmartre memory beneath the unmistakable red windmill.

2

5 min

A little café with a cinematic passport. Follow lively Rue Lepic to the café made internationally recognizable by Amélie in 2001. Its familiar frontage brings the neighborhood’s screen romance into everyday Paris, where café counters, neighborhood shops and morning routines provide their own charm. Photo: a playful film-inspired moment outside the café.

3

15 min

Private option: planned croissant venue, subject to opening and availability. A bakery with presidential credentials. Savor one buttery croissant per guest at a bakery whose baker, Djibril Bodian, won Paris’s best-baguette competition in 2010 and 2015. Those bread-making victories brought the honor of supplying the Élysée Palace—a delicious connection between everyday breakfast and presidential tables. The included treat is a croissant; the awards recognize the bakery’s baguettes. Additional pastries, such as a pain au chocolat, are optional purchases, not included; at your own expense. Photo: golden pastry layers against a lively Montmartre street.

4

5 min

Alternative croissant venue — Boulangerie Alexine. Private option only; replaces the bakery experience above. Taste the neighborhood’s everyday Paris. This artisan bakery prepares bread, viennoiseries and pâtisserie on site, offering a tempting glimpse of Montmartre beyond its famous façades. It is a practical alternative when Le Grenier à Pain is closed, particularly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. One croissant per guest is included at one bakery only. Photo: a fresh pastry and the shopfronts of Rue Lepic.

5

5 min

Parisian daily life beneath an Art Nouveau flourish. Enjoy a little square filled with café life and neighborhood character. Its elegant Guimard Métro entrance hides a surprising detail: it originally stood at Hôtel de Ville and was moved here in 1974. Photo: a Paris postcard moment beside the graceful green Métro entrance.

6

5 min

A love letter in hundreds of voices. Discover the story of a wall that brings together 311 declarations of love in more than 250 languages. Created in 2000, it turns a simple phrase into a celebration of connection across cultures. The wall is currently inaccessible for safety reasons. Your guide introduces its story from an accessible nearby area; a close-up view is not promised. Photo: the romantic Abbesses setting and surrounding neighborhood details.

7

5 min

A tiny square with an enormous artistic past. Step into a sloping, tree-shaded corner where Montmartre still feels like a village. Its cobbles and Wallace fountain create an intimate setting for discovering the friendships, financial struggles and restless ambition of the neighborhood’s artists. Photo: a quiet portrait framed by trees, cobblestones and the fountain.

8

5 min

An address that helped change modern art. Stand outside the celebrated artists’ residence where Picasso settled in 1904. Imagine cramped studios and lively exchanges as your guide introduces the creative world that helped transform an unfamiliar young painter into a revolutionary figure. Photo: the understated façade behind an extraordinary artistic story.

9

5 min

A musical legend’s private Montmartre. Follow a narrow lane to the elegant house where Dalida lived until 1987. Behind this discreet façade lies the story of an internationally celebrated singer whose connection with Montmartre remains deeply personal to the neighborhood. Photo: an atmospheric glimpse down the intimate Rue d’Orchampt.

10

5 min

Where Paris changed a painter’s colors. Look up at the building where Vincent van Gogh lived with his brother Theo during his Paris years, 1886–1888. The surrounding streets became subjects for his work as encounters with new artists helped brighten his palette. Photo: an ordinary Parisian façade with an extraordinary connection.

11

5 min

Windmills, dancing and an Impressionist masterpiece. Discover a surviving reminder of Montmartre’s rural past and its lively dance-hall culture. Renoir immortalized the atmosphere in his famous 1876 painting, capturing a world of music, movement and Sunday pleasure. Photo: the windmill rising unexpectedly above the neighborhood.

12

5 min

Vines growing above the rooftops of Paris. Discover a surprising patch of wine country on the hillside. Created in 1933 through local efforts to protect the land from development, this vineyard preserves Montmartre’s agricultural memory in the middle of the city. Photo: vineyard rows framed by the surrounding Parisian buildings.

13

5 min

The cabaret where even a donkey became an artist. Meet a wonderfully eccentric chapter of Montmartre history. Singer Aristide Bruant bought this cabaret in 1913 to save it from demolition; its stories include Lolo the donkey, whose paintbrush-equipped tail helped create a notorious artistic prank. Photo: the rustic cabaret façade beside the vineyard.

14

10 min

White domes above a city of rooftops. Finish beside the basilica consecrated in 1919, with its pale domes rising over the hill. Discover a different angle on this Paris icon before enjoying the sweeping panorama—a memorable finale to Montmartre’s stories, flavors and hidden corners. Photo: your Paris skyline moment, with rooftops stretching into the distance.

15

5 min

Private option only. The hill’s unexpectedly elegant side. Glimpse another face of Montmartre: spacious houses, greenery and architecture far removed from the crowded souvenir streets. This brief discovery introduces the residential elegance hidden behind the neighborhood’s bohemian reputation. Photo: a refined streetscape with a quieter, almost village-like mood.

16

5 min

Private option only. The man who walked through walls—and got stuck. Meet one of Montmartre’s most mischievous characters: a bronze figure emerging from solid stone. Created by actor and sculptor Jean Marais in 1989, it brings Marcel Aymé’s fantastical story into the street. Photo: a playful encounter with Montmartre’s impossible escape artist.

17

5 min

Private option only. A neighborhood tribute with a beautiful backdrop. Discover the bronze tribute installed in 1997 to honor Dalida. This small square brings together music, local affection and one of Montmartre’s loveliest perspectives toward its winding residential streets. Photo: a portrait framed by the curve of Rue de l’Abreuvoir.

18

5 min

Private option only. A winding lane that feels painted rather than built. Follow cobblestones past ivy-covered walls and colorful houses along one of Montmartre’s most picturesque streets. Its name recalls a watering place, preserving a small trace of the hill’s former village life. Photo: an unhurried walking moment along the curving lane.

19

5 min

Private option only. The pink house with artists in its past. Admire the little house purchased by painter Ramon Pichot in 1905. Its later restaurant welcomed artists from the Bateau-Lavoir, giving this much-photographed corner a story that reaches well beyond its pretty pink walls. Photo: the colorful street corner from the public walkway.

20

5 min

Private option only. A medieval survivor beside a world-famous neighbor. Discover a quieter treasure close to Sacré-Cœur: a church consecrated in 1147. Its restrained exterior introduces the medieval abbey that shaped Montmartre long before the painters, cabarets and crowds arrived. Photo: a peaceful architectural contrast to the lively square nearby.
